Boston, MA --- Brookline Select Board Member Raul Fernandez today endorsed Congressman Joe Kennedy in his bid to join the United States Senate.

"In today’s political climate, we need a Senator in Washington that not only advocates for equity and inclusion, but understands that we’re going to have to change the institutions and systems that keep people down,” said Select Board Member Fernandez. “Joe’s head and heart are aligned on issues of social and economic justice, and his call for systemic change is particularly critical to the fight.”

"I'm grateful to have Select Board Member Fernandez in my corner,” said Congressman Kennedy. “Our country has too many institutions, too many systems, and too many policies that leave massive amounts of our Commonwealth and fellow Americans behind. I’ve spent the past month traveling across Massachusetts, and I see it in our food pantries, in our shelters, in our healthcare system, in our workplaces, and in our schools. We can no longer accept the status quo and turn our backs to those who face these injustices day in and day out.”

Dr. Raul Fernandez is an elected Select Board Member in Brookline and an appointee to the Racial Imbalance Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He also is Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at Boston University, and a lecturer in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, leading equity and inclusion workshops around the country and internationally.

Select Board Member Fernandez has been a champion for racial equity and inclusion in Brookline by working to expand Section 8 voucher utilization, to appropriate marijuana revenue for racial equity initiatives, and to center racial justice in climate, transportation, and economic development solutions.
