BERKSHIRE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY HARRINGTON ENDORSES KENNEDY FOR U.S. SENATE

Watertown, MA --- Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington today endorsed Congressman Joe Kennedy III in his bid to join the United States Senate.

"I am proud to enthusiastically endorse Joe Kennedy for U.S. Senate," said District Attorney Harrington. "As a former prosecutor, Joe is a powerful advocate for the public safety initiatives that I have championed, including aggressive prosecution of gender-based violence and comprehensive medical treatment for those struggling with mental illness, trauma, and substance use disorder. Joe is a leader for the future with the passion and energy to lift up Western Massachusetts while uniting a divided nation during these perilous times.”

“I’m grateful to have District Attorney Harrington in my corner,” said Congressman Kennedy. “She brings a fresh perspective and has bold ideas to reform a system that too often works against those that need our help the most. From what we criminalize in the first place, to how we enforce the law, to treating incarceration as a last resort, to humane conditions in prisons, to rehabilitation and reentry--there’s a lot of hard work to do in this space and I’m glad to have DA Harrington as a partner to work together to bring comprehensive reform to every piece of our criminal justice system.”

Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington is a champion for criminal justice reform and eradicating the opioid crisis. Just several months into her first year as DA, she delivered on her campaign promise to establish a Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force to work to absolve domestic and sexual violence in Berkshire County. She has supported causes such as ending reliance on cash bail, reviewing un-indicted allegations of sexual assault, and treating addiction as a public health matter.
