KENNEDY REACHES OVER 2 MILLION WITH COVID-19 FACEBOOK LIVE VIDEOS

Kennedy’s Facebook live videos reach 2 million people in first week of COVID-19 digital push

Watertown, MA — In the first week of Congressman Joe Kennedy III’s digital push to bring Massachusetts residents information on COVID-19, live stream videos from his Facebook page appeared on 2 million feeds and were interacted with (commented on, liked, or shared) over 450,000 times.

“Since day one, this campaign has been about meeting people where they are,” said Congressman Kennedy. “As the very real threat of COVID-19 continues to grow in Massachusetts and across the country, accessibility is vital. With our digital efforts, we are talking with and listening to people across the state every single day. We will keep showing up. We will keep listening. Because right now, we need that more than ever.”

The push on Facebook is part of a larger digital effort to deliver accurate information during this time of uncertainty. In addition to regular video updates, Kennedy has launched a digital rapid response center on his website with information on COVID-19, as well as a virtual campaign office where people can interact with the Congressman and other supporters while field activity is temporarily suspended.

For his multi-platform virtual town halls, Kennedy invites guests to join him live to discuss COVID-19 and the impact it has on people across the state and country. To date, Kennedy has hosted State Rep./ Dr. Jon Santiago, former Chairman of Economic Advisors to President Obama Jason Furman, chef and founder of World Central Kitchen José Andrés, former Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under President Obama Andy Slavitt, and patient and health care advocate Peter Morley.

Kennedy is also bringing Massachusetts residents and supporters updates from his Newton home each morning alongside his wife, Lauren, and two children, Ellie and James. On St. Patrick’s Day morning, Kennedy went live on Facebook to wish those tuning in a happy St. Patrick’s Day, while Ellie sang her favorite song from the movie Frozen. The video received 240,000 views alone.

Kennedy has also prioritized Spanish-speaking communities on Facebook in the last week. Fluent in Spanish, Kennedy has been sharing the latest information regarding COVID-19, best practices for keeping safe, and updates from Washington, D.C. completely in Spanish.

Additionally, Kennedy is using his supporter email base to raise thousands for organizations working on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis –– such as Meals on Wheels, Project Bread, and others.
