KENNEDY RELEASES FIRST TV AD: “LEAD”

“And when this crisis has passed, hear me loud and clear: Quality health care will be a guaranteed right for all.
In the U.S. Senate, I will lead that fight.”
–– Joe Kennedy III

Watertown, MA — Today, Kennedy for Massachusetts released its first TV ad and announced a statewide run in the Boston, Springfield, Rhode Island, and Albany media markets. The media buy includes broadcast, cable, Spanish-language, streaming services, and digital platforms. The ad is expected to hit TV screens Thursday morning.

The :30 second spot “LEAD” highlights Kennedy’s response to COVID-19 and the leadership he will bring to the U.S. Senate in the fight for health care for all.

Since he was first elected to Congress in 2012, Kennedy has built a national profile in the fight for universal health care. From his viral takedown of Speaker Paul Ryan during the GOP attempts to dismantle the ACA –– “an act of mercy” –– to his leadership in holding Trump Administration’s health officials accountable for threatening Americans’ health care and his record of passing bills to expand access to coverage and reign in pharmaceutical profits, Kennedy has established himself as one of the Democratic Party’s leading voices on access to health care and mental health care.

In response to COVID-19, Kennedy has doubled down on this focus, leading the Massachusetts Congressional delegation in fighting for increased community health center funding, increased testing capabilities, PPE for frontline medical workers, critical coverage for telemedicine, and protection for vulnerable patients. Just this week, he joined Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Representative Pramila Jayapal to introduce the Medicare Crisis Program Act, which would expand access to Medicare and Medicaid during the crisis and put our country on the path to Medicare for All.

In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, Congressman Joe Kennedy III reoriented his campaign to focus on what matters most right now –– making sure people have the resources and information they need to stay safe.

Here are just a few ways Joe is stepping up:

Live Social Media Check-ins –– Kennedy is keeping in touch with people in his daily Facebook Live check-ins. These often include special appearances from Ellie and James keeping busy at home. Since March 14th, Kennedy has gone Live 63 times across social media platforms, including 9 multi-platform streams, and his live streams have reached over 15 million social feeds.

Real-time text updates –– Kennedy launched a real-time text service for people to stay updated on his efforts to keep people safe across the Commonwealth. Text JK3 to 44939 for your updates!

“Community Check-in Phone Banks” –– Kennedy for MA field organizers and volunteers are checking in with older residents. For those who need help with things like grocery runs and prescription refills, Team Kennedy puts them in touch with local food banks and resources offering services. Check out this awesome twitter thread from one of our organizers highlighting a success story!

Frontline Fundraising –– Kennedy continues to ask his supporters to donate to organizations helping people the most in need –– raising over $100K for organizations like Project Bread and Meals on Wheels. In Chelsea, where COVID-19 has hit the hardest in Massachusetts, Kennedy has raised $30K for food and housing assistance. And to date, has raised over $15K for personal protective equipment (PPEs) for frontline workers across the country and state.

“Kennedy Evening Broadcasts” –– Kennedy hosts evening broadcasts from his home in Newton every Monday and Thursday night. These episodes include co-hosts from across the country, provide critical information on COVID-19, and discuss best practices for living life in quarantine. Kennedy has co-hosted evening broadcasts with NBC Sports Reporter Trenni Kusnierek, children's author Peter Reynolds, and celebrity chef Tiffani Faison, and others.

“Kennedy COVID-19 Frontline Reports” –– In Joe’s newest video series, he discusses what is happening on the front lines with doctors, nurses, first responders, and other essential personnel. His first video featured Rich MacKinnon, President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM).

“Weekly Wednesday Q&A” –– In this time of deep uncertainty, Kennedy is hosting a Weekly Wednesday Q&A to take questions directly from supporters and the general public on Facebook Live. These Q&As take place every Wednesday evening at 8pm on the Kennedy for MA Facebook page.

Virtual Town Halls –– Prior to his evening broadcasts, Kennedy hosted a series of virtual town halls with special guests, including State Rep./ Dr. Jon Santiago, Jason Furman, José Andrés, and others. In the wake of the shelter-in-place advisory, the campaign announced that these virtual town halls would take new shape: real-time interaction between Joe and residents across the Commonwealth. Kennedy has held eight regional virtual regional town halls, including one completely in Spanish.

Checking in with Spanish-speakers –– Kennedy is committed to bringing critical information to Spanish-speakers in regular Facebook Live videos and is providing Spanish language materials on his online response center.

Online Rapid Response Center/ Virtual Campaign Office –– Immediately following the Governor’s state of emergency announcement, Kennedy created an online rapid response center as well as a virtual campaign office to keep people informed. These pages are updated daily with guidance from the Governor and the CDC, as well as updates on what is happening in Washington, D.C.
